To
delineate MTBE plume in groundwater.
Site Information:

Gasoline containing MTBE impacted perched groundwater beneath gasoline
station.

MTBE
was discovered in water table zone beneath water at concentrations
approaching 100,000 ppb, some 200 feet down gradient.
|
|
|
Geology between perched and water table zones consisted of low
permeability hardpan material. |

Sampling Strategy

Developed 3D
model of subsurface showing distinct water-bearing zones and substance
geology.

|
Wells
installed by previous consultants were shown in this model with their screened
intervals.

MTBE
concentration were plotted in a 2D cross section. |
Results
|
|
3D modeling
and evaluation showed that MTBE contamination of the water table zone occurred
through wells screened across distinct water-bearing zones as shown in the 2D
cross section figure.

|
|
Information
will be used to design and address remediation of MTBE in the subsurface. |
